Opened to Open Innovation, keeping the Secrets secret!

Dear friends,

Today, I’d like to talk to you about an interesting Open Innovation case: Coca-Cola.

Despite its secret formula, a wholesome dose of creativity and open innovation behavior has been shown over the years.

So, maybe you’ll be surprised by the many examples I’m bringing to you of programs and other innovation initiatives by Coca-Cola.

[if !supportLists]1. [endif]Shaping a Better Future

“(…) their program (…) allows internet visitors to suggest solutions to real society problems (for example unemployment or environment). Afterwards, Coca-Cola selects the best project and offers its author $50,000 to put the project into practice. The winner is selected according to the intrinsic value of the project but also according to the number of votes it had received. To obtain the greatest number of votes possible, Coca-Cola encourages the authors of the projects to share them on social networks, especially on Facebook. This program obviously aims at improving the image of Coca-Cola.”

“Despite being one of the most closed in the world (do not forget that his recipe is still a big secret) Coca-Cola allows the customers to design the bottle (…)”

[if !supportLists]3. [endif]The Coca-Cola Accelerator program

“(…) aims to help start-ups in eight cities around the world; Sydney, Buenos Aires, Rio de Janeiro, Berlin, Singapore, Istanbul, San Francisco, and Bangalore. Those start-ups aim to think in innovative ways to build up Happiness into Coca-Cola brand.”

[if !supportLists]4. [endif]Freestyle dispenser machine

“(…) allows users from around the world to mix their own flavors and suggest a new flavor for Coca-Cola products. The new product records the consumer flavor so they can get it from other Freestyle machines located around the world using the Coca-Cola mobile application. This model of open innovation puts the consumers in the heart of the production process as the company uses the suggested flavors as part the external ideas that can be evaluated and processed as a new product line.”
